In this film I am going to show you how you can take a set of battery powered Christmas lights and converting them to USB powered Christmas lights, so you can kind of decorate your computer area. The first thing that you are going to need is a set of battery powered Christmas lights, so you can buy it almost at any retail store and you will also need a spare USB cable and I say spare because we are going to be cutting it in half.
So the first thing that you want to do is take apart the battery casing and you will a wire that goes to the positive terminal and a wire that goes to the negative terminal. Once you have established that, cut the small end of the USB cable and strip the wires. You will see four wires; we are only concerned about the red and black wire. Solder the red wire to the positive terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal. Do not worry about the white and green wires, they are only there for data and we are not going to be using data in this project.
So once you have soldered both of the wires to the terminals they are supposed to go to, go ahead and cut a hole in the casing for the wires and kind of hot glue them onto place. And then put the casing back together and once you have everything back together, just plug the USB cable into your computer and flip the switch to on and it should turn the lights on. Now you do not want to have batteries and the USB cable in at the same time because that will kind of explode the lights and you do not want that to happen.
If you want some more projects, here is one where I will show you how to make Christmas lights dance and you can find that at the link below. All right, that is it for this tutorial, for more go to tinkernut.com.
