Disney seems to be following Yoda’s mantra after its purchase of Lucasfilm — with plans to launch even more Star Wars movies than initially announced. Disney CEO Robert Iger confirmed to CNBC the company is working on some spinoff Star Wars movies in addition to the new trilogy. One MSNBC anchor doesn’t have a good feeling about this. [Video: Lucasfilm ] “They’re also planning several standalone Star Wars films. So, get ready, because starting in 2015, we’re going to have a new Star Wars film every single year — for better or worse. And I’m going to go with worse.” Better or worse, richer or poorer — A writer for Variety surmises the decision is money-driven , saying … “ Disney is moving quickly to start recouping the $4 billion it ponied up to buy George Lucas' Lucasfilm last year.” Word of the spinoff flicks provided grist for the rumor mill. The Los Angeles Times quickly looked at Yoda as a possible star in one of the standalone pics. But according to Sky News , Disney intends to introduce some new faces. “It says the extra films will be based on Star Wars characters who are not part of the ongoing film series.” The Force, apparently, is strong with this one. Disney’s Iger name-dropped who’s behind the first couple of spinoffs. One is none other than the screenwriter of both “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.” “Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters.” Despite Disney’s recent streak of Star Wars-related revelations — the house the mouse built still hasn’t confirmed whether Greedo or Han Solo shot first. Let’s hope they leave that alone.
