Rhiannon Ally: We know her as the uptight and painfully perfect Bree Van de Kamp from ABC’s hit show Desperate Housewives. Take a look. Scandalous. Well, in reality she is no desperate housewife. Marcia Cross is a successful actress, wife and mother of two. She’s here to talk about her very busy life on set and also outside of Wisteria Lane. Welcome.
Marcia Cross: Hi.
Rhiannon Ally: Wow, that was a great club, Blackmail. Very scandalous.
Marcia Cross: Yes.
Rhiannon Ally: Now, tell us when you first started the show, did you know it’s going to be such a hit?
Marcia Cross: God no and I certainly don’t think I’d be sitting here six seasons later.
Rhiannon Ally: It’s amazing. Everyone loves that show. Tell us what it likes to play Bree? Are you like Bree in real life?
Marcia Cross: Well, I hate to disappoint people so I would stop telling them but I’m actually not like Bree at all. And I’m organizationally challenged as that.
Rhiannon Ally: Really?
Marcia Cross: Yes.
Rhiannon Ally: Have you’ve learned a lot from playing her I guess.
Marcia Cross: No, but I actually work very hard. I’m trying to be organized and sort of manage a big life and that takes some concentration.
Rhiannon Ally: Oh I bet. Can you believe it’s been six seasons?
Marcia Cross: I can't but I can believe it’s been six seasons I got married, I have children, they’re free now it’s just sitting here makes use sort of ticks tock of the time that flown by.
Rhiannon Ally: You’ve played so many roles over the years. You’ve been in Melrose Place, One Life to Live. What has been your favorite role or TV show to work on so far?
Marcia Cross: Wow. I’d love them all for the time and place in my life that I where I was like. This has been an incredibly amazing run and now was a kind of particularly painful time in my life so being crazy was very appropriate and---
Rhiannon Ally: That was a crazy character.
Marcia Cross: Yes. In One Life to Live I was sort of this uber woman and traveled and spokes different languages so you kind of get to live at different life with each character so it’s all good.
Rhiannon Ally: That sounds like a lot of fun.
Marcia Cross: Yes it is.
Rhiannon Ally: Now, we hear all the gossip about what goes in behind the scenes of Desperate Housewives. Tell us how do you get along with the cast and crew?
Marcia Cross: Oh my God we are so lucky. We have the most amazing family. It’s been six years, there were some kinks at the beginning but now it’s just—it’s going to be very, very hard to say goodbye when the time comes because you get so close. We’ve all had marriages or deaths or births and it’s a very tight knit group.
Rhiannon Ally: That’s amazing.
Marcia Cross: Yes.
Rhiannon Ally: Now, I read somewhere that one of your daughter doesn’t like fruits and vegetables? Is that true?
Marcia Cross: It’s absolutely true. I have one food and one who I really have to sneak things in so like partnered with Matt as you know and they’ve created this Matt’s medleys and it’s just a great way to sneak in fruits and vegetables of your kids are reticent to do anything but apple juice you can sneak in some carrot and—
Rhiannon Ally: Did she fall for it?
Marcia Cross: Yes she does and she’s very smart. So luckily, I still have that on her but she gets me another way so--when it’s going to mean even match soon.
Rhiannon Ally: So tell us what about the campaign is all about.
Marcia Cross: The campaign is great. Matt has partnered with KaBoom which is national non-profit organization that creates playgrounds for kids. And in this country, you know we have a real problem with obesity and we really need to get our kids out to play but the problem is that most communities or many communities don’t have playgrounds for this—for inner city kids it’s—70% of kids don’t have a playground within walking distance. And they’re going to build the KaBoom in conjunction with Matt are going to build 10 new playgrounds across the United States and they’re huge wonderful playgrounds. And I just from me that even with the backyard my girls want to go at the park.
Rhiannon Ally: Giving other kids an opportunity.
Marcia Cross: Yes.
Rhiannon Ally: That’s great. Thank you so much for stopping by today to share all that with us.
Marcia Cross: You’re welcome.
