(Image Source: Wikimedia Commons ) BY CHRISTIAN BRYANT A French woman has been arrested for a mark of creative expression at a place where that should be encouraged — the Louvre Museum in Lens, France. Sources say the 28-year-old woman — who claims to be a part of a conspiracy theorist group — defaced an 1830 Eugene Delacroix painting. The woman took a black pen and scribbled “AE911” near the bottom of the painting. [via The Telegraph ] “AE911” is short for “Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth.” The Atlantic Wire notes that the group is one of the foremost in accusing the 9/11 Commission Report of covering up facts about the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. The painting called “Liberty Leading the People” is one of Delacroix’s most famous works and was created to commemorate the French Revolution. The iconic piece was featured on the 100 franc banknote before France switched to the Euro. The painting is currently on loan to the Louvre-Lens from the bigger, more popular sister museum — the Louvre in Paris, France. [via BBC ] Luckily, the museum said in a statement that the grafitti on Delacroix’s painting can be “easily cleaned.”
