Oh darn you know, we did not make it here on time to save this deck and here is where the problem is. This is a great example of a deck that was ruined by a power washer. Those things are highly dangerous and they can really, really hurt deck lumber and I will tell you why.
You know, wood is made up a two components. Basically, your springwood and their summerwood. Springwood is the light colored wood that is in between the dark bonds of grain. Okay the springwood is really soft and pressure washers they can just tear it out of the wood and the result is really grainy wood. It needs to be sanded and in some instances, it can actually cut your hand.
Now, what is the best way to clean wood? I will tell you what I found I would like to use a product called oxygen bleach. Oxygen bleach, it is non-toxic. You just mix it with water. All you do is pour it onto the deck and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, scrub it lightly with the scrub brush on a pole, rinse it with the garden hose and the wood looks like new. No erosion, very safe, it is the only way to go oxygen bleach. Where can you get it locally? At a lot of—Eric(ph) Stores and if you are on the web go to OxygenBleach.com.
Okay, remember, all you really need to clean a deck the easy way is just a garden hose, some oxygen bleach. Remember, no power washers.
