Dick: I have been living in the wilderness for most of my life and that is a pretty long time. Every season of the year, somebody is getting lost. Sometimes it is hikers, sometimes it is hunters the problem is learning how to get found and that is one of the things that we are going to show you in this particular segment.
Now how do they get lost? Well, leaving a trail for some reason or another is one of the most common ways this occurs. Sometimes people have a deadline they figure they are going to save some time by taking a short cut. Suddenly they find no this is wrong or maybe they just left their innocent leader, take a photo and they go a little bit further so they lose sight of the trail and then trouble.
Some people have maybe following animal tracks because they would like to get a photo of the animal or just see the animal when that happens they wake up and look around and they say Oh, oh. They become disoriented and panic. So, her is what to do.
If you are lost, the first thing that you got to do is stop, slowdown, let your heart beat and your breathe slowdown and think. Think of where you have been, see if you can reconstruct or you may have taken the wrong turn. Then build a fire, that will cool you down and warm you up at the same have a bit of food to get your blood sugar up, your brain needs that to function properly.
Now if you do not come up with a solution to how you got lost just stay put. People will soon be looking for you. In the event of a passing plane or boat, use a signal mirror. If you do not have a signal mirror take your brown ranger, compass and use that to signal with. If you do not have results there or nothing is passing you by, get out your orange bags arrange them in an open spot in the middle along a beach. Three of them in a row equally spaced out, that signals emergency and need for help.
Then if it comes to be that you are going to be staying over a night, construct a log act and you will spend a comfortable night, very important to keep yourself together, keep up your energy. If you begin to hear, any sounds around you that sound like somebody might be coming use your whistle. Do not shout, you will get horse in minutes, three blasts evenly spaced, the interval just as long as the sound of the blast.
