Rhiannon: You have been playing the violin since age four I hear.
David Garrett: Pretty much I studied my parents first my dad is actually a lawyer he loves classical music and so kind of gave me the first violin. I did actually like it from the beginning and I did practice and I turnout to be you know not that bad at it.
Rhiannon: Not that bad you are not too bad. Okay so, I've heard that you actually left Germany without telling your parents. Is this true?
David Garrett: Well I did tell them in the end obviously I can't just like go and say I am going to buy some I don’t know groceries and then they will come back. I know it will be really cool and weird.
Rhiannon: See you later tonight.
David Garrett: But what I did do is I apply -- I didn’t tell my parents about the applications and about the idea of moving to New York.
Rhiannon: You are having a lot of success overseas.
David Garrett: Yeah.
Rhiannon: So what made you want to come to Julliard and come to New York and breaking in the music biz here?
David Garrett: Well I never really felt that I had an environment you know where I got really inspired doing what I wanted to do. And I just felt I needed to kind of come somewhere where I could really find my own.
Rhiannon: Okay, and you actually bust tables and you did some modeling?
David Garrett: I did indeed I did everything which helped me to kind of take recreation.
Rhiannon: I have to ask you about this Guinness Book of World Record.
David Garrett: Right.
Rhiannon: Tell us about it.
David Garrett: Really?
Rhiannon: It is pretty cool, it’s pretty cool.
David Garrett: It was such you know like a fun experience in the beginning I never thought that was something I would have conversations about. They came up with the idea of playing The Flight of the Bumblebee which is supposedly the fastest piece and said this is the fastest time somebody ever played it, can you do it faster, and I said “Sure why not?”
Rhiannon: Could anyone time that? People Magazine called you a classical hottie.
David Garrett: Wow that’s cute, I like that.
Rhiannon: Yeah I think a lot of women out there would agree he is the classical hottie. Your sound is so unique how is it felt to be getting your sound out there?
David Garrett: I just feel very secure about that this is something people actually like listening to coming from Europe where it’s such a huge success I just feel why would America be any different it is a great record, I have great musicians who help me produced the record.
Rhiannon: And you were trained obviously classically?
David Garrett: Yes.
Rhiannon: But now you are you know putting the two together rock and classical music. Where do you get the inspiration?
David Garrett: Well, when I came to New York I just started endeavoring and also it is a different music world especially rock which, I always feel has the closest connection the classical music because either you can play well an instrument, you know the good times of rhythm you know these are all kind of things which are essential for being good musician.
Rhiannon: What are your favorite songs on the new album?
David Garrett: I love all of them, I really --
Rhiannon: Oh, come on.
David Garrett: It’s ready to go, it is like kids you know I -- which kids you love.
