The grandfather of photo sharing services is set to close its doors to the masses. According to The Next Web , DailyBooth will be closing the photo-a-day website by the end of this year.

In an email to DailyBooth users, the team broke the news, saying “Regrettably, this email comes with unfortunate news. DailyBooth is shutting down. Keeping the website running is no longer feasible.”

The Next Web says the email gives specific deadlines regarding user content: 

“The email... explains that users will no longer be able to upload photos to the service from November 14, but they have until the end of 2012 to download their (much-cherished) data.”

According to a writer for Neowin , it was apparent this day would come. 

“Even though community funding raised more than $7 million, the writing was on the wall for the site. Airbnb acquired the team behind the site … in July 2012 and prior to this in March the service was ‘no longer under active development.’”

Users of the photo-a-day website tweeted with mixed emotions.

Some were surprised by the shutdown, tweeting :

“i can't believe dailybooth is shutting down! so many memories and fun times since 2009 on that site... #RIP”

While others weren’t so surprised, citing new photo-sharing services:

“Just got an email saying DailyBooth is shutting down. Sad, but I can see why. I jumped to Instagram a long time ago.”

and a writer for Internaut agrees , saying: 

“With the coming of Instagram, it seems like no other photo sharing service has a chance anymore.”
