Speaker: What should my caloric intake be, if I want to lose weight?

Dr. William McCarthy: For any given individual, it's going to vary. First of all, we have to look at what do the caloric needs with a person in their resting state. What is the caloric intake that they are currently taking in to maintain or perhaps what they are gaining with, and then we have to make adjustment form there. And these adjustments really depend upon a number of factors.

How fast a person wants to lose weight for example, what are the person's activities and so we have to really make the decision; to give you a rough estimate, they're actually that they're about 3500 calories to about a pound of weight. So, if a person want to take in less 500 calories less everyday in the long run that will probably average losing about a pound of weight, it's not a quiet that simple, but it's close.
