Cynthia Nixon Spills Sex Scoop
Ben Lyons: For you what is it that you want from the Sex and the City?
Cynthia Nixon: Our first movie it was so painful in parts. You know Miranda’s marriage was maybe not going to make it, Carrie nudes it well. Well that’s not been too tragic I hope. Carrie deserted at the Alter. I mean lot of painful things. And so this time what I wanted to see and what I think we have made is just the girls all together you know husbands, jobs, children temporarily forgotten, the four of us together far, far away having a great exotic time.
Ben Lyons: Let’s talk about fashion. How much of an input do you guys have on what you wear or you just blindly trust Patricia Field?
Cynthia Nixon: I mean we trust her awful lot but we you know we have many hour fittings. Many session, many hour fittings and Pat even though she obviously tremendous eye and a very strong point view she’s extremely collaborative not only with the person whose going to wear the cloths but there are number of people in the wardrobe room giving their opinion and she really wants to know what everybody has to say.
We don't want women to come to our movie and be wearing the same thing that the characters are wearing up on screen we wanted to be like, “Wow, I’ve never seen that dress before, that’s amazing”.
Ben Lyons: Well it’s hard to do though. It’s a constantly—
Cynthia Nixon: It is hard particularly, particularly with the lag time that there is in making a film. So we do borrow a lot of samples and like Sarah says if we take care of them and return them the library remembers that lends it to us the next time.
Ben Lyons: You have your life that separate from the character but you have to have fans that come up to and acquaint you with the character.
Cynthia Nixon: Absolutely, although as the years pass it was, you know they only use to call me by my character name but now most people seemed to know my real name too. I’d rather be called by my real name.
Ben Lyons: I'm sure, well it’s got to be cool for you guys now in the second film, and it had a lot of big name show up and lends their support. So, tell me what it’s like when Liza Minnelli is there and she is doing - in your movie it’s got to be huge thrill for you.
Cynthia Nixon: It’s amazing, I mean we’re always very touched by people who love our show and love our movies and share it with us. But when it’s somebody that you’ve spent your whole life admiring and worshiping and not only do they like your work but they actually will come and spend some days with you and dance and sing their heart out for you.
Ben Lyons: Yeah, being a mother does it help you play mother on screen?
Cynthia Nixon: It helps me play a mother but I also think just loving kids helps you play a mother. Loving kids help you interact with kids on screen. I mean I think Kristin Davis doesn’t have any kids of her own yet but she loves kids and I think she really, she put so much time into her off screen relationship with both the babies playing her babies and the girls playing her older daughter and I think it really, it really pays off because they get so comfortable with her.
Ben Lyons: Sure and you guys are so comfortable of course playing these characters you’ve done it for about 12 or 13 years, now. It’s a unique experience for the actor it doesn’t happen every so often.
Cynthia Nixon: No, to get to play a character for so long and also it’s not like you, it’s not like a great role on stage but you return to it that the same thing happens to you night after night. You're the same character but you actually live and different events happen and you change and grow.
