TMZ reports the troubled star’s body was found Sunday afternoon at an Arkansas home, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. NBC’s Dateline correspondent Andrea Canning confirmed the news on Twitter. “Just got a call from Mindy McCready's best friend that she shot and killed herself this evening. My heart breaks for her two boys.” E! Online notes this is a tragic end to what’s been a tragic few weeks for Mindy. About a month ago her boyfriend, music producer David Wilson, was also found dead. The cause is still unknown. After denying any involvement in Wilson’s death, Mindy’s sons -- one of whom was Wilson’s -- were taken away from her by local authorities. At that point, Mindy was ordered to enter an in-patient facility for drug and alcohol treatment. Mindy later opted to undergo outpatient treatment. This wouldn’t have been the first time Mindy sought treatment. She appeared on the third season of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” with Dr. Drew in 2010. Mindy is best known for her debut single “Ten Thousand Angels” and the chart-topping “Guys Do It All the Time.” [Video: BNA Records ] But after her sudden rise to fame, Mindy hit a series of personal and professional roadblocks. Fox News has a rundown of Mindy’s personal troubles. In 2004, she plead guilty to illegally obtaining prescription painkillers and was put on three years’ probation. Mindy violated that probation in 2005 with a drunk-driving arrest. And she had twice before attempted suicide -- once in the summer of 2005 and again in December 2008. Mindy leaves behind her two sons, six-year-old Zander and nine-month-old Zayne, who are currently in foster care.
