Rhiannon Ally: Country music legends Rascal Flatts are tearing up the charts. The award winning musicians are keeping busy with an upcoming tour and a national ad campaign.
A few weeks ago, Rascal Flatts helped American Idol celebrate country week, alongside international sensation Shakira. It was a good chance for the guys to pick up some dance moves.
Gary Levox: Yeah, it’s actually “Shake-kira” yeah. And yeah, just try to do what you can do. How do you compete with a gypsy?
Male: He’s the only one that can move his hips.
Rhiannon Ally: In combining those styles, it wasn’t as hard as you might think.
Gary Levox: I think that’s what’s so great about country music is that our format is so wide open that there’s room for everybody.
Rhiannon Ally: Meanwhile, the band is gearing up for a new tour and living the dream.
Joe Don Rooney: For us like live shows or like football games or football players or baseball game, you’re excited to get out there and do it and get in the moment. As a kid, when you stand in front of your mirror singing songs to the radio and that kind of thing, that mirror is actually about 20, some thousand people and standing in front of them, you picture all that. So, when you actually get to do it for a living, that’s where the energy is.
Gary Levox: You just stand in front of people in here and sing every song back and hear the stories that they tell about how one of our songs has touched their lives is the exact reasons. Our fans are the exact reason why we make music.
Rhiannon Ally: When it comes to new tunes, it’s all about playing music they want to hear.
Jay Demarcus: We got to do songs that speak to us first. If we don’t believe them ourselves, I think that it translates to the audience.
Rhiannon Ally: As if they didn’t already have enough on their plate, their next job is your morning cup of joe.
Gary Levox: For the next year, we’re actually the new voice for Folgers. So, the best part of waking up is Folgers singing “The best part of waking up.”
Rhiannon Ally: Rascal Flatts, nothing like this tour kicks off in June.
