Gun sales in Colorado spiked 41 percent since the movie theater shooting in Aurora, according to the Colorado Bureau of investigation. KUSA reports.


“We called six gun shops all over the metro area including this one and they all told us sales are up, classes are full, and more customers are coming through these doors, asking questions.”

Background checks were approved for more than 2,800 gun buyers between Friday and Sunday in Colorado. But the Denver Post reports , the increase isn’t unusual after a mass shooting.

“After a gunman in Tucson killed six people and injured others, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, in 2010, background checks in Arizona jumped 60 percent over the same date one year earlier, according to the FBI.”

The Aurora shooting left 12 dead and wounded 58. The shooting also prompted a second amendment debate. KDVR got both sides of the story.

“Had there have been someone in the theater that was armed, they could have possibly stopped that threat.”
“Addressing gun violence by purchasing more guns, I don’t think is the right answer.”

Bill O’Reilly notes another perspective:

“Right now, some gun dealers do background checks but no one reports the sale of heavy weapons, like AK47s, to the feds. that’s insane. So terrorists can just move in here, buy bazookas, and the FBI doesn’t know about it.”

A Colorado lawmaker is joining representatives from New York and New Jersey to ask congress to ban the high-capacity ammunition clips used by the theater shooting suspect.
