(Image source: Irvine Police Department )  BY ELIZABETH HAGEDORN Authorities have confirmed the charred remains found after the fiery gun battle in Big Bear, California, were, in fact, Christopher Dorner’s. After a tense standoff Tuesday night, police shot tear gas canisters into the cabin where Dorner had barricaded himself. Authorities considered the manhunt over when they found a drivers license belonging to Dorner in the rubble, along with a body. [Video: MSNBC ] The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said medical authorities ID’d the body through a dental examination during an autopsy. The cause of death, the investigators say, could take weeks. [Video: KTLA ]   Dorner is suspected of killing four people as part of his revenge-fueled killing spree against the LAPD for his firing in 2011. [Image: LAPD } A statement released to KTTV from Dorner’s mother reads, "It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we express our deepest sympathies and condolences to anyone that suffered losses or injuries resulting from Christopher's actions.  We do not condone Christopher's actions.” The Los Angeles Times reports now that the search is officially over, the LAPD has taken away the protection details assigned to more than 50 police officers and their families who were targeted by Dorner in the manifesto he posted to Facebook.
