My name is Simon Lewis and I started this company when I was 26, a lot of years ago and what we do is we buy and sell diamonds and we sell diamonds to the public as commodities. If you’re buying a beautiful diamond, this lovely tells something might fool you as opposed to something you have to pay.

In the diamond shop, we invite clients. They may come and choose styles and we work few designs and we go through diamonds and we pretty much get down to exactly what’s required. And then we sit down, we’re going to third hand information. We sit down and we make everything here on the premises. So we make the ring mounts for the diamonds to go into all the settings then the clients come and try them on before the diamonds go in and then the diamonds are put it on the light state because if you say you have to size a ring down you move, you move the structure of the ring. So it is really nice to get it fitted perfectly round the ring size to be comfortable.

There’s a lot more to just buying a diamond ring and just to buy some stay off the peg. It’s an art form. This diamond age it’s become more and more popular to have something designed and make and I find the old cut tail way of doing it and making it the old 1920s cut tail way of doing things works very, very well and so we work through the designs, we paint pictures, we talk and we eventually tell her exactly what people want.

Vince had been with me for 18 years apprentice to qualified diamond mounter and he is making a diamond solitaire marked key based on and he is installing that lovely shape into the shoulders and giving that beautiful look. He is making in such a way because a marked key is a very long stone that what he’d done to be fit up underneath the ring itself so that we don’t have to shape the wedding manner a little too late. Here that is very important that you bear in mind the wedding bond while your initial prices are making an engagement ring.

Even though it’s a very specialized, this spoke service it works in a cheap and a lot more reasonable than retail and the reason to plan is we don’t have a one ring right and some expensive sales stock and we don’t have a window full of stock and all that makes a big difference and you know if a guy sees deals with you, he will be the guy making it and nothing makes a big difference.

And it is great savings to be made to because we like to educate people on a Saturday only. We open up our workshop and we run what we call the wedding ring workshop. Where we teach only four couples every Saturday how to make it each others wedding rings and couples will come in and we teach them the whole process and they have to sit down and its very quite hard work and we sit down and they have to go for all the process of melting, milling, bending, joining, filing and it really makes them more important if you make each others wedding rings and it is such a great tool component to the parties and what could be more meaningful than making each others symbol of a lifetime together.

A diamond is taking out the grounds. Its mine from a stone called blue stone and it comes out the ground and it’s roughly a tetrahedron shape. Then it goes to a gutter or somebody who sew the stone into the light shape and its sewn down into the middle then it will go to a brewter who puts it into a light and using the excess diamond powder will make it into a cylindrical diamond but it will be very dull, getting from there, it will go to a diamond polisher and you will polish all the facets on it.

All those trades are very, very skill trade and so it passes through many hands before it arrives at outdoor step because all then has to be certified which is very important. What we do is we pile the diamonds in depending on the cuts and colors and pieces. We tend to refill for sizes and what we like.

We don’t ever sell anything but we try not to sell anything below an eye color and we try not to sell anything below of the VS2 and there are parameters a VS2 is purity, it’s the malts that are inside the stone. How many they have inside the stone and eye is the color of the stone and the color is graded from D to Z and we try and encourage people to go as high as they can in color and as high as they can in purity so you achieve perfection and some addiction and it is beautiful.

When you see a fantastic diamond, it comes making it. It’s really lovely. An old diamond should be 99. They are beautiful things and lovely, opening a little book or brief case which is a storage place for diamonds and opening them looking at these diamonds is fantastic. We buy many stones in a brief case and we assess colors and purity. It’s just beautiful. Working with them is beautiful.
