Hi, I am Beth Bates the sewteacher.com. Today, we are learning how to use your sewing machine. In this clip, I will be talking about how to change out the feet of your sewing machine. The first foot we will use is how to make the buttonhole foot. Okay, you simply take your screwdriver, loosen the screw, you might have to kind of jiggle it a little bit. You take your standard foot off, carefully, slip this in, okay. Lift up the foot, take your screwdriver, screw it back in. Make sure it's nice and tight so it doesn't come off while you are sewing. Manually turn your handle and watch the needle and the thread go up and down to make sure it's not going to hit anything. Okay, the next foot we are going to do, we will take this one off, same way, unscrew the screw, pull it off gently and now it's okay. That was the buttonhole foot.
The next foot we are going to be using is the zipper foot or the cording foot. I am going to slide over here to this machine. Again, the screw is a little bit smaller. Same principle, unscrew the foot, take it off, revert this side. There is actually space right there. You want to put that to kind of work it in there a little bit and firmly, like so, take your screwdriver, tighten it up and this is very important because you don't want your foot to slip and fall off while you are sewing. Then your needle could hit the foot and that would throw your timing off and results in a costly repair. So make sure it's on nice and tight.
Some people prefer to use their fingers to screw it, but you take a screwdriver and for the last turn it nice and tight. Manually turn and make sure that the needle clears the foot before you begin sewing. Okay, and then real quick too, I wanted to show you actually, the standard foot. So I am going to take off the zipper foot or the cording foot; that's used for both things, zippers and your cordings, take this off. This is what your standard foot looks like; here it is with the other machines so that you can compare the two, basically the same, one is bigger. Slip it under, hold it in place and then like the others, you simply tighten the screw. If you use your fingers initially take the screwdriver towards the end and make sure that it is nice and tight so it doesn't slip off. Okay, nice and tight. Again, turn your wheel and make sure it clears nice and sturdy and you are ready to start sewing.
