Hi, I’m Joe Wise, owner of Built Wise Construction in Orlando, Florida.

Now that we’ve left time for the prep work to dry, it’s time to go back and show you how to caulk this thing. Remember what I was telling you about being careful with utility knife? Well, as you can see, I’ve slipped a little bit and I had to pay the prize and put a Band Aid on it.

First of all, you want to use a nice Latex based caulk some of which have micro bands in them that resists fungus and mildew build-up. You just want to clip off the top at an angle; most of them even show you what angle to do that on. So you get a nice beveled edge so when you can caulk it will come out smoothly. Also, I’m going to use my sponge in this which I’ve put water on and wet it, so when I go over it, it will smooth the caulk out evenly.

So what we’re going to do is, this is a handheld caulk, we’re just going to push the caulk out, you don’t want to get too much on this because when you do, it just takes longer to make it look better. If you want to get enough caulk then go slow enough that you get a good bond between the caulk and the tub. Don’t worry too much about what it looks like at this tub.

Alright, I’ll come back and I’m just kind of hit it with my finger. I’ m going to wet my finger first and just kind of hit a little bit off, and I’m going to get the biggest of the caulk right here. I’m just kind of going to come back over with the wet sponge to look good and just even it out.

There you go, you got a nice clean bond between the substrate, tub and the caulk which should prevent any damage to your tub’s surround area.
