I am Bob Schmidt with Home Remodel Workshop. During our home remodeling projects or while we are having someone working in our house, our carpet is put at risk. It's a big investment, we have taken a lot of time taking care of it, keeping it clean. I'll show you how to protect it during your remodeling process.
Now what we have here is a self-adhering carpet protection system. It goes down over your carpet and it keeps water and dirt and stuff from working it's way into your carpet. Pull out about a foot to start with, press it to the carpet with your fingers and then start rolling it out, smoothing it as you go, making sure that it has a nice tight adhesion to your carpet.
When the area that you feel needs to be protected is as far as you need to be go ahead and take your knife very gently, cut the lead edge of the plastic off, being very careful not to touch the carpet with your knife.
One of the nice things about this product, is you can go up the carpet, it steps with it. Now in this case you'll probably need a friend to help you out because it will be difficult to do this by yourself.
As you see you have a protected surface that goes not only on the tops of our steps but at the fronts also for the dirty boots that hit against. If this is your own remodeling project, I highly recommend you use this, it'll keep your carpets safe between your project and your outside.
If it's someone else that's doing the project for you, if they don't feel like using this product, I suggest you get some and use it yourself and then request that they stay on it, it'll save your carpet, save your money.
One thing important to keep in mind, this is only a temporary system during your project. This project in particular recommends you only leave it down for 45 days as with any adhesive, they will get hard and stickier over time. So, make sure that you understand that, and this is not intended to go over any hard surfaces. It's not for hard wood, vinyl, just carpet only.
