ERIC STROMER: Hey, I’m Eric Stromer, and I’ve got a way to create a beautiful garden without breaking your budget. This is your GMC Trade Secret.
Now, consider using budget-friendly annuals in your landscaping. Simply put, an annual is a plant that goes through its full life cycle from seed to flower in only one growing season. Now, they tend to be much more affordable than perennial plants. Because of their short life span, they blossom and bloom more quickly and tend to have a greater ground cover.
Now, annuals are great for creating a flowering border along your home or yard. Warm-season annuals need daytime temperatures ranging from 80 to 90 degrees. These include marigolds, impatiens and petunias. Now, some annuals, like marigolds, are a pest repellant. The flowers give off a fragrance that insects avoid.
Cool-season annuals are more cold-tolerant and can handle light frost. Examples are dahlia, geraniums and salvia.
Annuals work great with container gardening. You can use a traditional flower pot or you can get creative with other ideas. Try planting in an old watering can or even a tire rim.
So the next time you’re shopping for plants, consider buying annuals. They’re beautiful and won’t break your bank.
I’m Eric Stromer. That’s your GMC Trade Secret, brought to you by the GMC Sierra.
