I was diagnosed when I was 38 years old. My daughter here was 6 months old. My son was 18 months old and I thought I had mastitis. So it took a while to figure out what was going on. I had itching in my breast and it was heavier and I found out after about 6 months of being treated from mastitis that I had an inflammatory breast cancer which is a very rare and unusually it’s a fatal breast cancer.

Only 1% of breast cancer is inflammatory breast cancer and it usually strikes young women. I went — I was diagnosed, but I went to do it to a comprehensive cancer center and got wonderful care there. I went through — yes inflammatory breast cancer is not approvable. You have to have chemo first and that was not the critical 10 years ago.

But I was initially given 18 months to live. They told me to get a nanny for my children and to get my order that I wouldn’t live to see them through a preschool. But I had a wonderful support system at home and my husband was super. And my friend at church were super and I had bunch of people that prayed for me.

And so after it was almost a year of treatment that I start Tamoxifen. I was on Tamoxifen for 5 year and I’ve had three scares of occurrences and non of them have been cancerous. And its been wonderful I have people asked about the chemo and sure there are side effects. I have poor apathy from Texol that I’d tell them I have much further the side effects and be alive than not have gotten the treatment. And say, I just feel very, very blessed. I’m a survivor.
