Black Gold Interview
Audra Lowe: Well, their song shine marked a pivotal moment every single week on the hip show so you think you can dance and now Black Gold is hoping to shine themselves on the charts. Lesley got to meet the band in today’s Better Spotlight.
Lesley Nagy: Thanks, Audra. That’s right. I’m here now with Black Gold, welcome guys.
Black Gold: Thanks for having us.
Lesley Nagy: Oh, thank you for coming. Of course, you're getting a lot of buzz from your single Shine, which is on Fox so you think you can dance and how that came about?
Black Gold: you know when we play it on the show actually Nigel finally include us in what happened there like I guess it somehow found its way to the producers and they got together in a committee and they needed to pick a song for that moment in the show and they like our songs. So we got lucky I supposed.
Lesley Nagy: And they asked you to play with Minnelli episode, what was that experience like?
Black Gold: Man, that was our first time doing television like that and it was really exciting and really fun. I thought I might be a little nervous but once we got there, the audience was really warm of us and it felt good right off the top.
Lesley Nagy: Great and of course your album Rush, tell us about it. What can fans expect?
Black Gold: Well, Rush is, it’s about our lives over the course of many years. It took us awhile to record the record and it’s about that but the style is kind of eclectic. We like a lot of different kinds of music so we draw from all sorts of music.
Lesley Nagy: Well, I did pull up my gold today so --
Black Gold: Yeah, I was going to thank you for supporting the callers. I really the appreciate that. I actually bought too. I guess we could have a match.
Lesley Nagy: We could have all worn black. What is black gold exactly and how did that come about?
Black Gold: Well, the name is really just about contrast. It’s sort of about the way we write music. We like to talk about a lot of the dark and difficult experiences in life but we put sort of machine finish on top of it and that’s kind of how we got Black Gold.
Lesley Nagy: In this summer, you played with Panic at the disco so what’s up for you next?
Black Gold: Yeah. Up next, we’re in the process of writing and recording the next record now and there are probably some shows coming up in the fall as well outside of our recording schedule so we’re keeping busy.
Lesley Nagy: Well, good luck and I’m so excited to hear you play Shine for us.
Black Gold: Thank you.
Audra Lowe: And you can pick up their CD Rush which is in stores now and you also hear perform right here on our show in just a minute.
