Janine Aloisi: The restaurant of the week is Beyti Restaurant located just across the Hudson and Union City New Jersey. This restaurant is best known for its traditional kebab dishes and freshly prepared appetizers. The authenticity of this restaurant is so amazing that it makes you feels if you’re eating at any town in Turkey. Let’s check it out.
Canberk Esen: My name is Canberk Esen. I’ve been working in Beyti Restaurant over six years. We serve over 40 people in this restaurant. We have two rooms in the restaurant. One is dining room, another one is they’ll see a big lounge room. We use it for parties and entertainment.
In our menu, we have lots of appetizers and lots of kebabs. We have a lot of eggplant starters, eggplant salads, babagannush. Also in Turkey, everybody use eggplant almost every house kitchen but you know at states, most of people don’t eat eggplant as much as they eat in Turkey, so we can also use this culture to this country and people. I see that people love these eggplant starters in the restaurant, in Turkish kitchen.
Also, we have five or six different types of kebabs; chicken kebabs, doner kebab, shish kebab and our famous food, Turkish salad. You know, Turkish salad is our most popular starters because of the chef’s secret sauce maybe or also the fresh vegetables inside.
Male: Well, I get a lot of different food here. I love all the kebabs that they have. It’s fantastic. I’ve got to say that this place is probably the best Turkish restaurant in the Hudson County area by far and probably any area I’ve ever been in, so it’s fantastic, everything they have.
Yasin Basci: They have been serving the community since 1982. The restaurant was founded by—as a small butcher shop and then it expanded to a restaurant. We have a large variety of appetizers on our menu and then we have shepherd salad. We have kebabs. We have chicken kebab, veal kebab, lamb chops and adana kebab. We are very famous with our kebabs because we only use fresh cut Halal meat in all our kebabs. That’s very important for our customers because whenever you come to Beyti, you always eat fresh meat. That’s very important and our salad is also very famous because we only use good quality vegetables, tomatoes and cucumbers in our shepherd salad. Also, the olive oil is very important. Olive oil is also very big in Turkey. We have to use good quality Turkish olive oil in almost every appetizer. We have a lot of loyal customers here who have been coming for 25 years because our food is addictive. Once you come here, you’re going to be addicted to our food. I give you a guarantee.
Male 2: Well, I think Turkish food in general is very healthy, very fresh and it’s more of a Mediterranean kind of food.
Female: All the food is delicious.
Male 3: Second time here, very good. It was very good the last time. Oh of course, very good. This is our first time.
Female 2: Yeah, this is my first time but I’m very impressed. I like it a lot. It’s very good. The salad is very good, the feta cheese.
Nesrin Onalan: I’m Nesrin Onalan and I work here part-time. I’m Assistant Manager and Hostess. I’m a student. We have very loyal customers who’ve been coming here since the restaurant first opened and they come from like everywhere. They come from long island, New York City, Brooklyn and South Jersey; they travel quite a while just to come here because they love our food.
