Benefits of Breastfeeding
Female1: Start breastfeeding?
Female2: Well, start breastfeeding ideally within the first hour after birth. And we need to facilitate in some mothers depending on what’s happened in the birth process and some mothers need more support and in helping to facilitate that.
Female1: How long should you breastfeed, I mean up to what age?
Female2: Well, that’s a great question and it’s some kind of how long the phase is trained.
Female1: It’s a bit of controversial one I assure you.
Female2: It’s a little bit explained maybe or bit lately with some studies that have being released but the World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of the baby’s life which means no other food or fluids yet is required for those first six months. And that breast milk remains the most important part of the baby’s diet until they’re one. And then they suggest to that or recommend that breastfeeding continues until two or until the mother and baby or as for as long as the mother and baby desired.
Female1: When you’re talking about exclusive breastfeeding, so not to compliment it as suppose that compliments the word with formula I mean that seems to be a bit of trend that people—women are breastfeeding but also topping up expression topping their babies with formula for night feeds.
Female2: That has significant impact on baby’s health to do that. Breast milk actually grows flora in the gut of the baby and introducing artificial baby milk actually deflates the natural gut flora.
Female1: And gut flora is good for?
Female2: Well, gut flora, it maintains the absorption of the milk and all of the vitamins and nutrients and immunological benefits that breast milk can bring but we still don’t know all of the ingredients that are in breast milk.
