Maria Vetrini: As a matter of fact it was like 11, 11.30 at night, she called me up and she says, Mom, I took the test; I think it's pink, but I am not sure. So we hung up, I said, well, you know, most likely you are pregnant, and the following morning she tested again. She goes, Mom, it's pink, it's so pink, I think I am pregnant. And so, I think I was probably the first one to know. I am Maria, Vetrini's mother, and I am obviously Joslin's grandma.
Erica Vetrini: Hi! Everyone. My name is Erica Vetrini.
Maria Vetrini: We are very close, so we were counseling close contact with her.
Erica Vetrini: I never imagined that I would think a bulging belly could be sexy, but ever since I have been six months pregnant, I am loving the baby bulge.
Maria Vetrini: I was a little bit nervous over the pregnancy only because the doctors at her seventh month said that the baby might have been too small and so we were a little bit worried about that.
Erica Vetrini: The placenta and the amniotic fluid were always wonderful. So with sort of frustration I thought may be it's me, of course that's the typical mom thing. What I am I doing wrong? What I am I doing wrong? What I am I doing wrong? And I felt like, the hardest part was feeling like this person is a part of me right now, but I have zero control over her health at this point. And that is such a scary feeling.
Maria Vetrini: Erica has such a great pregnancy. I couldn't even tell that she was pregnant. Many times she was sitting down and unless she stood up I forgot about that she was pregnant.
Erica Vetrini: I gained about twenty two pounds which is probably about fair. At the beginning, I don't want to say that I was cautious, but I was, I just I tried to keep my real schedule and then at the end I really let my self indulge and sort of relax a little bit.
Maria Vetrini: Erica is going to be a wonderful mom. She is full of energy. She is fun; she is a lot more fun than I was. She is creative, and this just happened at a time when she was just ready to be a mom. She constantly worked out; it's a normal routine for her. So she reassured me that there will be nothing to worry about. And I thanked God, because I think it does keep you in good shape and I think get even helped her dilate at the end more easier, because she walked a lot and she as well fit.
This is my assumption. Basically when I raise my children, you basically go with instincts. You give them a lot of love, you feed them, you change the diapers.
Erica Vetrini: We just want -- we want to pass on what we know, but we don't want to stop her from being who she is?
Maria Vetrini: I think the parents today are a little more educated. They want a little bit more for their children.
Erica Vetrini: I have always wanted a girl, but at the same time being a woman, I think that's my biggest fear. I thought there's so much responsibility that I have to teach her all the right things.
Maria Vetrini: I have so much confidence in them and the way they handle things. I was a very naive mother. I basically got pregnant, had the baby and that was it. Erica and Randy are very, very smart and they are very well informed.
Erica Vetrini: My mom is surprisingly leaving it in my hands. I think things were very different when she had us.
Maria Vetrini: I think; one thing that I was very impressed with Randy and Erica is that they really did a lot of research. And they actually explained things to me.
Erica Vetrini: I felt like she feels a little out of the loop so she is just sort of following and letting me take the lead.
Maria Vetrini: I have always been very, very involved in my children's life and as long as they welcome me, I will be there as much as they want to me to be there. It's a, I would love to be known and be close to my granddaughter just like I am close to my daughter. She will be calling me Nonna. So she can distinguish, she can distinguish me from the other grandparents.
Normally it's just a grandmother in Italian. And it's probably going to be very easy for her to even say it, Nonna. Love your child.
If your child knows that you love them, if I am -- I guess I am just getting emotional, because Erica and I are very close and that's how I called her when she was born. When Joslin was born I got just as bad, I just feel, listen, love your children, and if you love your children, you can't do no wrong. Just be there.
