Behind the Scenes at General Hospital
Audra Lowe: From General Hospital knowing best is bad boy Johnny Zacchara but Better got the real deal. Actor Brandon Barash gave us a quick look behind the scenes with the popular ABC daytime drama.
Brandon Barash: Hey, I’m Brandon Barash. I play Johnny Zacchara in General Hospital. That’s where you are at General Hospital in the dressing room floor. Come on in, I’ll show you my humble man cave. Still run lines, so you’ll find around here paintings that I’ve done in my spare time. And a guitar, I’m trying to teach myself how to play.
All right so now I’ll shown you my space and where I make my magic cup and why don’t we take a walk down the hallway and see who else we can find.
Now we’re going to pay a little visit to Mark Teschner and see what he’s doing in there. He is the guy who gave me my big break on the show.
What’s that it factor that you look for in all the people that walked through this door?
Mark Teschner: The it factor is the indefinable thing that we always look for. Because you need somebody who’s not only a good actor but there’s something about him that transcends what’s on the page.
Brandon Barash: Can you the people watching that little inside scoop on maybe who and what you’re looking for now?
Mark Teschner: Sure. We’re recasting Brandon, he doesn’t know it yet. So he’s going to go in the shower and somebody else is going to come out. But separate from that, actually I’m just kidding. I know how fans can get, just kidding.
Brandon Barash: Look out all these clothes. That must mean one thing we are in the General Hospital wardrobe department. If we can be lucky enough to sneak up on the highly elusive—there she is. Mary Iannelli, General Hospital costume designer. Those clothes look familiar. What do you got doing there?
Mary Iannelli: Well I’m just preparing Johnny’s outfit for the upcoming series.
Brandon Barash: So other than dealing with divas like myself, what is the most difficult part about your job?
Mary Iannelli: Well our cast is so good looking that they make it very easy.
Brandon Barash: Pressing company not included.
Mary Iannelli: They make it very easy. There’s different challenges just sometimes things aren’t in the stores that you need to get multiples and you might want to hide certain floss like it some more different—
Brandon Barash: Wait a minute, actors have floss? So here’s where the real magic happens. Our General Hospital make-up department where I have to come hours before I work just to look presentable but this lovely little creature right here, Miss Lisa Lucesrow maybe spends 5 minutes in the make-up chair before going on. There’s not much work to be done.
So wait a minute, who do you get an all dolled up for because we’re not working together today, so —
Lisa: I got to bring a little rage and it’s not to you, since this all going to be gone in just a little minute. It’s going to crack off with my fury.
Brandon Barash: Do you have a lot of material today?
Lisa: Two solid lines. But they’re going to be so angry that the stage is going to be rocking for the rest of the week. I’m going to put a full episode into these two lines.
Brandon Barash: You are a full episode, I mean you really are.
So you saw it here. That was just a little taste of everything we go through everyday to get ready here at General Hospital. Little bit of drama, little bit of fun, little bit everything. We’re kind of a close family. So if you want to tune in for more drama, weekdays on ABC, weeknights on soft net. Check out General Hospital, I’m going to go see what kind of trouble I can get into. Go on a date. Pull a gun, carjack somebody. I don’t know. It’s a new day. We’ll see what happens.
Audra Lowe: Thanks a lot Brandon. He makes it look just as fun to work in front of the camera as behind the scenes on that show.
