Great design meets the great outdoors, we’re creating amazing spaces, affordable ideas for spectacular outdoor rooms.
Hey guys welcome to a very small contained deck that is not getting much use right now but check this out, we’re turning it into a warm inviting living room. So here’s the plan, this traditional house has a clean and elegant look so I’ll use that as inspiration to create a simple elegant living room with a touch of luxury. First, a couch because nothing says living room like a comfortable place for gathering. Next an elegant patterned rug warms up the deck and really defines the space. You want to stick around to see how the right accessories will make this as stylish as any indoor living room.
So where do you begin? You have two doors here that could block floor, bedroom door and dining room door, you don’t want to block them with furniture. The ideal location for the couch is on the far edge of the deck where it won't block the traffic. Here, it creates a boundary that encloses the room much like a wall does indoors. The couch is L shaped along with positioning it facing the home really invites you into this new room. Furniture selection is so key on this patio. You want to think about your style. Since we’re going for simple elegance, I chose a sectional with clean lines and big comfortable cushions to add a sense of indoor living room luxury.
Now it’s all about the rug, once the furniture is in place, you want to center your brand new living room with the rug that adds a little bit more texture and color. That’s why we went with a bold pattern. All this is solid, this gives us an option and the other thing to think about is if you put it under the legs of your furniture, the rug won't move. If you’ve got a blank wall, it doesn’t look that great, what do you do? Presto, just like that, you’ve got color, texture, great movement on this wall but in the case of this jasmine plant, awesome fragrance, I wish you guys were here. Plus think about contrast in terms of color. These white flowers are the perfect pop up against this gray wall. I placed more white flowers in small pots around the room to repeat the crisp and elegant look that help enclose the room and really define the space.
We all know how unbelievably important accessories are inside they are just as important outside if not more so. You don’t have any walls or ceiling to really contain the space so accessories bring a warm vibrancy to the room. So I’m using bold colors and geometric patterns, a matching chair, a side table and ottomans really help bring a sense of indoor luxury outdoors and a white pitcher and plates pick up on that white jasmine and they really tie the whole look together. Alright and we’re done. From a simple side deck to simple elegance, we’ve used the furniture, flowers and accessories to create an outdoor living room that’s totally worth living in.
