Oh, come here. Take a look at this over here. I been ask by this home order to come in and take a look at he basement before they develop it, and to check and see if there are any moisture problems.
And look it down here. there is definitely a moisture identification there by the white line and that efflorescence is telling me that there is moisture wicking up from the footings into the concrete wall and venting in to the home, leaving its trail behind.
Always an indication of moisture, now how do you check for it?
Very simple. Take a green garbage bag which I have done here and mask type it down to the concrete and leave it at least 24 hours.
After that period, take a hole on to the masking type and tear it up and take a look underneath the bag. And if you can see the outline of the bag which you can definitely see here that that is moisture.
Moisture coming up through the concrete, its tried to vent it self but the plastic held it back.
Now before anything’s develop in this basement, you must use a penetrating water sealer and anything else that is going to be applied to the surface it is going to be water proof type of material. it could be a semetatious which is a powdered material applied to the concrete. Stopping to that moisture from coming up in to the wood sub straight or what ever type of finish.
So it is very important to seal the concrete to stop that moisture from venting.
