Speaker: One, you have to know where everything is. If you know where everything is at all times, that's the biggest thing in your favor. The second thing is familiarity with the register system and then the drinks. You just learn like what people order. You can buy a bartending book that will have 7000 drinks, right. People order like seven drinks, they don’t order much. They will ask you to make different weird shots and everything, just learn the basic speed. Anyone will hire you if you can work fast. If you don’t work fast like -- that's all what bar owners want, they want a fast bartender. If you do like little things, little things go a long way like, you have to get very adapt with your hands.
So you are talking to some one you can like spin this while you talk to them, they like that, you make a drink like this and you can hold off four for four for them, they like that, like style goes a long way. Like if you can shake like this, and talk to somebody, you can shake like that, and they like -- like girls like it if you can do it like this instead of going like this, it looks like. First of all this is a terrible pour, don’t be afraid of the bottles, don’t be afraid of the liquor, you take it, turn it upside down, trick you can do, this is a hard one to do with, but one of the first things I was ever taught as a bartender, is to hold your thumb on the pour top, when you pour, pour like that, right, because a lot of these it's loose, and they will pop off.
That is the worst that could happen. Pouring a good beer, it's so important to learn how to pour a good beer, like this you could tell is a good bear, because it has heads, like you want head, but you don’t want too much, it depends. Like if you are pouring a bun like, you want a little head, but if you pour some of the nicer beers, like an inch head is good. Just be friendly, be happy. There is a stereo type that goes with bartending. I went to college for acting, I went to grad school for acting and I bartended my way to pay for school. My father taught me some of them, he said always take pride in whatever job you do, whatever job you are doing at that moment, is your job and it represents you and take pride in it, because in the end that's what you are all about, is what you doing, so just be proud to like do it.
