Carter: The backyard should be a place that the whole family kind of grant so I’m breaking up this yard to give the Brentleys areas for the kids, the adults and family bonding. The boring concrete walls need some life so we’re going to add a blue and yellow paint treatment reminiscent of the sky.
We custom build the water feature to add another element of nature.
Jinnie: Now we have a giant white wall here. So I want to break it up with a lot of different fun colors. We’re going to take inspiration from the sunrise and gradient these and let the colors bleed unto each other. It’s going to become a beautiful backdrop for this yard.
Carter: I asked Jake to create a fountain for the backyard. So he’s come up with an idea incorporating plywood, redwood and pipes.
Jake: First, we’re going to start here with some really simple ¾ inch exterior plywood box, a really thick pond liner covering the inside of the box to prevent any standing water from leaking out and a hose will pump water from this planter up to the top.
All right, so using a nice small drill bit I’ve gone ahead and drilled a bunch of holes in my one inch galvanized pipe here and this is where the water is going to flow out of for the fountain.
Carter: I want you guys to be really surprised when the backyard is finished so that means I want you guys to get out of here for a little while and then come back and you’ll have a brand new backyard.
Female: I can’t wait.
Carter: All right, get out of here, so is your old man. I had asked Jake to build a water feature. Now it’s time to get it up and working. All right, turn this bad boy on.
Jake: Yeah, look at this.
Carter: Amie, what’s up.
Male: What’s going on, man.
Carter: How’re you doing?
Male: How’re you doing?
Carter: You all ready with this.
Male: I’m so ready.
Carter: Yes? Let’s go.
Female: We’re so excited.
Carter: Well, you guys have waited long enough. Your backyard has been barren for so long.
Male: I know.
Carter: But now it’s something different. Go check it out.
Male: (Voice Overlap) Let’s go.
Female: Oh my [Laughs]
Carter: We added a custom fountain to add a relaxing element and to bring in the natural sound of water.
Female: Oh, it’s so peaceful.
Male: You know what’s really cool is when you have a bald head, you could just like get in here, it’s like, yeah.
