Arthur St. Antoine: It looks like something Batman would drive. This is the Audi R8, Audi's two-seat supercar. This car finished first in last years Best Handling Competition. Now it's in our Best Driver's Car Competition, and we're expecting it to do really well. A 4.2 litre V8 mid-mounted making 420 horsepower, powering the wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Let's take it for some hard laps around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Magnificent. Randy just got out of the Audi R8, one of our favorite cars, and last year, this car won our Best Handling Contest. Now it's in Best Driver's Car, what do you think after your laps?
Randy Pobst: To tell you what, I think we picked the right car last year. My heart is still beating fast. We're measuring my heart rate today, and it's not beating fast because it was hard work, or because it was scary, it's being fast because it was just so satisfying. So fine and so thrilling and the R8 encouraged me to go faster, and faster and faster with a combination of quick response and stability. It's crying for more horsepower. It's a fast car, engine note is just sweet. The engine is revving 8000 rpm, and you never have a sense that you're hearing it. But I just have this sense like I'm in a Formula car where I'm laid back and the wheels are all up higher than I am, and just a thrilling and satisfying car to drive.
