Host: Hi and welcome back. We’re here in the home of Odnoo Celik and she is going to show us a little bit about Mongolian culture. Now, Odnoo I hope you wouldn’t mind me asking you about your absolutely gorgeous outfit. Can you tell us a little bit about this?

Odnoo: This is a Mongolian traditional dress. We are wearing it for the special days and something when we’re celebrating holidays, we are wearing it.

Host: Is this something you would wear to a wedding?

Odnoo: Yeah, we can wear it for wedding and holidays.

Host: It’s absolutely beautiful. This obviously comes in different kinds of colors and length.

Odnoo: Yeah, any kind, any model, they can wear it.

Host: Beautiful! And can you show us some?

Odnoo: Yeah, I have some items from Mongolia. This is also like same dresses Mongolian ladies—

Host: It looks like you except in different colors.

Odnoo: This is a gentleman. They are wearing Mongolian traditional dresses.

Host: Traditional outfits, absolutely beautiful! So, this is the man and the woman.

Odnoo: Yes.

Host: And these are like dolls I guess.

Odnoo: Yeah for the display.

Host: For decoration, very nice!

Odnoo: I think I’m like five years old.

Host: Oh my goodness.

Odnoo: I also dressed like Mongolian dress.

Host: Beautiful!

Odnoo: This is my nephews and me. I just want to show you on the picture, we have carpets on the wall.

Host: That’s interesting.

Odnoo: Because it’s very cold in Mongolia.

Host: And that actually keeps—

Odnoo: Yeah, it keeps warm and on this picture this is my mom and dad.

Host: And they’re still in Mongolia?

Odnoo: Yeah, they’re still in Mongolia. This is also my latest family and dad also.

Host: Nice! And it looks like they’re all together for something special.

Odnoo: Yeah, there was something from my nephews wedding. Yeah, they are preparing for the wedding and they are wearing Mongolian traditional clothes because it’s special day.

Host: Very nice.

Odnoo: This is my daughter Elisa. She’s in Mongolia.

Host: Oh my goodness, what is she holding here?

Odnoo: The sheep.

Host: It’s a sheep. It looks like a lamb I think.

Odnoo: A big baby lamb okay.

Host: Very cute.

Odnoo: This is an interesting picture. I’m in a middle school. This is me. In middle school, we have a special uniform we have to wear. Everybody has to be in same color and same uniforms.

Host: Very nice. Is this a like private school?

Odnoo: No, in public school.

Host: Public schools, they wear uniforms.

Odnoo: Yeah, every school we have to wear uniforms.

Host: Wow! That is really neat.

Odnoo: Alright now, it’s maybe like they changed item.

Host: They might have changed since then.

Odnoo: Yeah, maybe like 20 years ago.

Host: Oh my goodness! Well, they are very, very nice.

Odnoo: This is—he is very famous in Mongolia. He’s a national hero.

Host: A hero from Mongolia. And is this something that is like passed down in your family or is this something that was made, a hand made?

Odnoo: Yeah, this is a handmade leather.

Host: With leather, okay. And it’s painted on. I’ll see that. Very nice!

Odnoo: Yeah, this is a picture of a Mongolian nature and horses and Mongolian peoples, we like horses very much.

Host: Okay, they are very popular in Mongolia.

Odnoo: Yeah, and then mountain and blue skies.

Host: And I notice that this painting actually looks almost similar to the carpet here.

Odnoo: Yeah. Also, the carpet is from Mongolia. We bring and hang it on the wall.

Host: So, this is a kind of carpet that would hang on the walls and keep the houses a little warmer.

Odnoo: Yeah, little warm and right now the small one is like for the fishing, just stick right at the house.

Host: Very nice.

Odnoo: Always every baby like they’re cradling with horses because we love horse very much. My friends, they are coming.

Tula: Nice to meet you.

Host: Welcome.

Tula: Thank you.

Odnoo: Hello, come on in. She’s Tula’s mom—

Host: Hello, it’s nice to meet you. You look great as well.

Odnoo: Hey John.

John: Hello!

Host: Hey John! It’s nice to meet you. Looks like you got your hands full.

John: I do.

Host: Won’t you come on in.

John: Alright, thank you.

Host: You're welcome.
Well, this looks absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to just dive into this food, but before we do that, why don’t you just tell us a little bit about the soup here, this Mongolian soup.

Tula: Yes. This is a dumpling soup and I prepare at home brought it for our dinner. This is beef broth. We put a lot of vegetables in there. I put carrots, potatoes and turnip. I’ve put a little bit of dill and scallions and boil for a while and then I put the dumplings which are similar to—that I show you but they’re much smaller, so you boil them.

Host: Sounds suitable.

Tula: Yeah.

Host: Is this is a very hot spicy kind of soup?

Tula It’s not spicy at all. Mongolians don’t like too spicy food.

Host: Not too spicy.

Tula: Yeah, not too spicy at all.

Host: That’s good because I’m not too fit in the spice anyway, so that’s good. Okay and we also have some very beautiful looking salad here.

Odnoo: Yeah, we have a salad here. It’s tomatoes and then some dills then we add a little more olive oil and we have another salad here. It’s actually eggplant, roasted eggplant—a little bit red peppers.

Host: Very nice, very nice and we also have our cabbage salad which we made earlier and it looks like we have some pickles.

John: Some pickles because if you eat Buuz all the time, sometimes you like something else to spice them up, some side dishes.

Host: And I believe pickles actually help you digest meat a little better which is why they also serve pickles with meet dishes which is also very good. Well, it looks like everything is set and we will definitely be coming right back, so don’t go away, we’re going to have a wonderful Mongolian feast.
