BY LOGAN TITTLE   Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, known for designing some of the 20th century’s most famous buildings, has died at the age of 104. His achievements included designing the United Nations Plaza in New York. Here’s Al Jazeera .   “He was a titan of modern architecture best-known for the spacious, futuristic buildings he designed for Brazil's capital, Brasilia, in 1956. His stamp is everywhere in the city.”   Niemeyer won architecture’s top honor, the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1988. He lived in protest of right angles and was known for designing most of his works based off of curves.   The Los Angeles Times notes he was also known for his protest-based politics explaining Niemeyer became a communist in the 1940’s and was a good friend of Fidel Castro.   “His designs — especially of Brasilia — were partly an attempt to push his country toward egalitarianism, bringing rich and poor together through housing projects and public spaces.”   The BBC explains Niemeyer left behind a wife of 6 years and a life’s worth of architecture.   “Oscar Niemeyer never stopped working or stopped believing that architecture could make the world a better place, which most would agree in his case it did.”
