Swiss archaeologists say they’ve made an almost 3,000-year-old discovery -- the tomb of a female singer in Egypt. That’s according to the Agence France Presse news agency. AfricAsia.com explains …

“The rare find was made accidentally by a team from Switzerland's Basel University … The woman … was a singer for the supreme deity Amon Ra during the Twenty-Second Dynasty ... according to an inscription on a wooden plaque found in the tomb.”

The tomb was found in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings while scientists were examining another tomb -- the Valley is the same resting place as famous King Tut, shown here. Researchers say this is the only tomb of a woman who wasn’t related to ancient Egyptian royalty to ever be found in the Valley. Monsters and Critics explains the significance.

“The discovery showed that the Valley of the Kings was not only used to bury members of the royal family, but also ordinary citizens … ”

King Tut’s body stayed preserved for thousands of years, and his tomb was filled with riches. So what’s inside this one? The Mirror reports -- it hasn’t been opened yet, but still speculates.

“ … when the coffin is opened this week, Egyptian and Swiss archaeologists will likely find a mummy and a cartonnage mask molded to her face and made from layers of linen and plaster.”
