(Image Source: The Verge ) BY BRIAN BONDUS ANCHOR JASMINE BAILEY   Is it a case of collusion for the world’s largest tech titans?  Five tech workers filed a lawsuit Tuesday against major tech-companies including Apple and Google for conspiring together to have no-hire agreements. Boy Genius Reports , the tech workers claim the tech giants wanted to decrease competition for tech employees, therefore driving down wages. This civil case has brought forth a string of emails from Apple’s late CEO, Steve Jobs and Google’s Eric Schmidt. Jobs’ charged language toward Palm’s CEO Ed Colligan threatened patent litigation if the company continued to recruit Apple employees. To Colligan’s warnings of financial burdens in long court battles, Jobs replied  “I’m sure you realize the asymmetry in the financial resources of our respective companies...” The filing also suggests Google committed to no-hire agreements, but... “...then-CEO Eric Schmidt advised the company's HR director not to put anything in writing when sharing agreements with rivals.” Though Palm and Apple are the headlines in this no-hire debacle, Gizmodo has posted some documents which suggest many companies engage in these no-hire agreements. Adobe’s table, entitled “Companies that are off limits,” outlines the rules for scouting out potential employees. For Apple: “Do not pro-actively solicit candidates...” and for Ukrainian based Syncroquest: “...we agreed to a written no-hire/no-recruit agreement.” Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini is also involved in the civil case. Courts will depose him later this month. Gigaom highlights part of an email he reportedly sent to Google’s CEO. “We have nothing signed. We have a handshake ‘no-recruit’ between Eric and myself. I would not like this broadly known.” The Department of Justice suit investigation was settled in 2010, but the civil suit is still on.  Courts have called in Apple’s and Google’s CEOs to give depositions in the next month concerning the case.
