Now if we scroll down to the button of this by again holding the demo space bar come down to us a lower part of text frame. You can see an icon here that is very important. It is a small red plus symbol. Now it is kind of opposite of the one that we see in the upper left hand side which is this empty white rectangle. This tells us that this is a text frame and most text frame have one of this on top left hand side and on the lower right hand side. If you see the empty rectangle on the lower right hand side it means that all of the type you have place to created in that frame is fitting. There is no over flow. There is no type that we are unable to see because the text fame cannot accommodate it. Well, in this case this thus suggest that we have over flow. Now there are different ways to tackle this on this particular page we are not going to adjust that because there is only one text frame on here. We are going to do some text formatting a little bit later which will bing that type back in and nicely fit it inside the text frame. But just say you are familiar with that icon to start with that is exactly where it means. There is over flow we need to do something about that. Okay, let us just press control zero. Will come on zero on the mac to fit in window. We can see that type frame quite happily setting on the first page.
What we are going to do is just jump across to page three of the document. Now there is another keyboard shortcut here for navigating through page instead of using the pages palette and that is very simple to hold down your sift key and used the page down or page alt key on your key pad to jump to the second page, page down again will go to the third page. It is quite handy to go up and down and jump back and forth between pages. But if you have to go to a specific page it is maybe 20 pages down through the document you cannot use the pages palette for that. But just another one I want you to show you that.
Now this page, page three has got three text columns, what we are going to do is through a new text frame here in this center column. So once again let us just go to the type tool up here inside the tools palette come across the middle column ad making sure we are on very left hand side of that middle column let us click and drag and draw ourself a new frame, any size that just snaps to the right hand margin. So we are just making sure this is perfectly set to the exact with. What we will do is the in come back to the main selection tool and change a couple of values up here inside the control palette. First thing is we are going to change the height here to an accurate 112 mm for a layout and just hit return into say okay and do not forget we had the link tone office so only the height change and not weight automatically. And then making sure that or angle point is set to the top as zero lock is set to the upper left hand side of the page we can come here to the weight access and just finds you not down to 30 mm say okay and that position is it precisely from the top. Now we have one text frame on the left hand side this is gong to be an overall spread where we want another text frame in exactly the opposite position in the middle column on he right hand side and as easy enough to do by simply positioning the cursor on the outside of the this frame hold down the alt key or the option key you will see the cursor change to a small double headed arrow. This means that when we start dragging on this we will copy it. By all means click and drags start copying another one over and you will se that you can move up and down to a sort of take this office 30 mm access at anytime during the drag you can hold down the shift key and now when you drag you move the cursor up ad down. You see a locking it into the 30 mm value that we started from. So we now holding down the alt and the shift or the option of shift on the mac drag all the way into the middle of that column on the right hand page let go of the mouse first and we now have two text frames one simply copied from other. We can do a double check this frame is highlighted it still says 30 mm down here on the weight access. Now what we will do is comeback over her to the left hand side that select this first text frame once again use the new keyboard shortcut alt shift key to bring out the place dialog box. Again from the same would files dialog let us used the sculpture copy file. Double check that the button we do not have show in full option turn on so that we reformat automatically and then just hit enter or return to say okay and we once more flow type into this frame.
Now, this is where we can see the over flow icon just the same as we have on the first page and what we can do now is show how we could linked this to another text frames such as this one on the right or even a new text frame if we wanted to create on apply or we have to do is simply come down to the icon the small red plus and click on it when you let go you will see the two things now changed. First thing, is the cursor is now showing up again as loaded text cursor so anyplace that we decide to draw another text frame or even click over this one on the right it will link the two together. The other thing is that the icon here on the corner the text frame has change to say that we are now flowing text out of this frame it will automatically link to the next place that we click. So this two things we can do her anywhere inside this areas simply click and drag the top draw a new text frame you will see as soon as you let go it is automatically populated with type that is because it is now flowing from this fame into this one alternatively let us undo that again control Z so the cursor still loaded retype. Let come across here and simple click on the right hand text frame and I type now flows from one to the other. Now, how do we know that is actually flowing from one to the other with a sort of assuming here just because we click from one side to other frame. Or what we can do is come up here to the view menu at the top of the screen, go down and choose show text spreads. When we do that if you have text frame selected you will see a draw a line that shows where the text exit one text frame and joint out to the other one. Now there is one exception to this rule if we just click to deselect you can see that as soon as you deselect the text frame it will remove those spread. So you do have to have one selected in order to view whatever is going on.
Now if you have frames link to cross page to page to page this link will do exactly that. You will see a line come up the button right hand side of one frame get across the next page and drop it into the next one. So it is very good way to keep track of how the text flows across your document.
