This ancient city is one of the most famous in the world, immortalize in books, poetry, song, film and theater. Each one of its monuments has featured in art at some point or the other.

One of the highlights of a trip to Edinburgh is visiting Edinburgh Castle. It contains over 1000 years of Scottish history. It was built on volcanic rock which gave it safety and security and it’s been a royal residence since the 12th century. Edinburgh Castle has been involved in many Scottish conflicts because of its role as an important fortress. Today, it is a major tourist attraction with over one million visitors every year. Inspired by great highs and lows, a building such as the castle, Chester wrote, “It seems like a city built on precipices, a perilous city. Great roads rush down hill like rivers in spate. Great buildings rush up like rockets”.

In the far north of Scotland, in the rugged inner—one island combines lollipop shotguns with bobbing boats in the most weepy dramatic coastline scene from Isles. That island is the Isle of Sky. And it’s the second largest in Scotland’s Far North. The Isle of Sky is known as being a mini highland. It is built on basalt rocks and features rugged hills and cliffs which are perfect for hikers and tourists. Monuments such as the black houses restored versions of traditional Scottish houses and Dunvegan Castle allow tourists to glimpse what life would have been like before modern times, but it is ultimately the possibility for escape and the knowledge that all around you is fresh clean air that brings most tourists looking for peace and relaxation.
