A Dash of Danish Modern Design
ColdSplash with David Bromsted
Angelica: David is coming to do our family room/living room/kid room and we’re just excited to see him.
Hector: The style that we’re going for is a very architectural kind of Danish- Modern but more adult-like contemporary cohesion to it that’s got kind of... we don’t even have a name for it we’re going to throw a bunch of stuff at him and just have him figure it out.
Angelica: Look at you.
David: How are you?
That’s cool, the house is cool. It’s very, very rare to come in to a couples house when you find that pink fire place.
Hector: We went to stop and you know like they had a terracotta and pink swimming pools so we’re like perfect. We’re trying to get it away from sort of that 1950s overtly mid century into more of sort of the grown up a little more you know…
David: Still mid century but are we going like what like Danish modern or like just thoughtfully design just like earthy look, it’s like oh the chair looks fabulous but it’s like a sculpture.
Angelica: Exactly, like an art piece but everything around is more muted. I just love like a fluffy rug or even though flokati.
Hector: One of the things we’re having is that there’s a lot of wood here but they’re all different shades.
David: Or maybe we don’t want to take away the wood, maybe we just wanted to add some really cool decorative details that are kind of enforced that Danish modern maybe build out that fireplace a little bit more and make it a little bit more dramatic.
David: Although it is dramatic right now but that’s not the color.
Hector: We’d love that.
David: Maybe a little bit more architectural really kind of reinforcing that Danish Modern and maybe bringing some of the Zebra wood and over here it’s kind of make two spaces go well together.
Where do you guys stop for stuff? Do you go online, do you go on ebay?
Angelica: Some of the stuff we got at flea markets but this is you know back 10 years ago.
Hector: We have a garage full of it and I have a recording studio in San Francisco completely outfitted with all of our Midcentury flea market fines.
David: Well I’m going to take a trip down to your office and do a little stealing.
Hector: Welcome to we’ll go.
David: One thing is for sure is that pink fireplace is going bye-bye. You know what kudos for them for taking a chance, kudos for them for not being color scared but also shame on you for being that color brave.
Hector: The white the fire, that’s great.
David: And you did a great job as you trialed over the brick. You can see a little bit of texture I think it’s really beautiful and cleaned.
Hector: I’m shocked.
David: Maple and Sipo wood.
Hector: The sipo is like the darker.
David: And it matches perfectly with you’re built in. It looks like it’s supposed to be there. I really wanted a zebra wood in your kitchen to be special but I wanted to bring it in here to also make the two spaces come together.
Angelica: The kitchen got done too.
Hector: Oh get out.
David: Look at what it has done to your cabinets.
Angelica: It totally makes them pop out like you see them.
Hector: Pop out.
David: They yellow is fighting with it.
Hector: You went above and beyond the call of duty there.
David: No more orange. No more pink. The only shots of color is we have this beautiful blue egg chair and a little pop of orange over there.
David: Did I come close to what you imagined me doing for you guys?
Angelica: Way beyond I mean like I would never have eve thought.
