This is not the first magnitude 6-plus or 7-plus that happened in this area. Actually we have just done a search in our records and this area in particular has experienced large quakes."SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Voice of, Robyn Ridpath, KIEM-TV" At first you could see the walls shaking although it's not unusual to have sort of smaller earthquakes in this area. You never know if you're going to feel a second wave or not. And surely enough there were about three big waves probably over the course of a minute that just shook the entire area. There have been numerous aftershocks, I would say in the area of nine or ten aftershocks in the area.STORYLINEThe earth shook last night under the Pacific seabed 50 miles west of Eureka and about four miles down off Northern California. Officials say a magnitude-6.9 earthquake was followed by about a half-dozen aftershocks, including one of magnitude 4.6. There were no reports of damage or injuries and no tsunami warning.
