With homes failing to attract offers for months on end, it’s no secret that it’s still a buyers’ market. Sellers looking to seal the deal sooner rather than later need to be certain their properties are in top condition. Even the smallest blemish can turn off a potential buyer just like that [snaps finger].
So, before planting a “for sale” sign in your front yard, make sure you’re avoiding the three things that today’s homebuyers hate:
First up, brass fixtures. Builder-grade brass -- from switchplates to chandeliers -- can really make a home feel dated. Buyers these days want a space that’s move-in ready, not something they’re going to have to make a bunch of updates to.
The next big turnoff is vanity lighting strips. They’re commonly found in bathrooms right above the mirror. Instead of bulky globe bulbs, many buyers prefer bathroom lighting displays with sconces or glass shades. They are sleeker in design and more modern-feeling.
Lastly, “crystal” faucet handles, which are usually made from acrylic, can cheapen the look of your kitchen or bathroom. For someone interested in potentially buying your home, their first impression when they see the inside of it shouldn’t be, “This place looks cheap.” Replace the acrylic with chrome, brushed nickel or oil-rubbed bronze faucet handles for a look that’s a bit more luxe.
