Certain states are more prone to severe weather, including floods, tornadoes and hurricanes. Depending on where you live, you’ll want to make sure that you’ve got enough insurance coverage to protect your home and belongings if disaster strikes.
Here’s a round-up of the top three states that are most at-risk:
At number three is Texas. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are as common as tumbleweed in the Lone Star state. Cities, such as Galveston and Houston, are often in the bull’s eye of destructive hurricanes that gain strength over the Gulf of Mexico.
Second is Florida. It gets slammed every year by tropical storms in summer and early fall. The Sunshine State also has the highest number of tornadoes per square of mile of any state, and central Florida is known as the lightning capital of the U.S.
Louisiana tops our list thanks to Hurricane Katrina, which was the costliest disaster in U.S. history. Unfortunately, many residents discovered too late that they didn’t have enough insurance to cover damages as a result of the 2005 storm. That’s why it’s extremely important to make sure you’re fully covered before hurricane season hits.
