There’s been a lot of talk about 16 bit versus 8 bit. I’ve done an extensive testing and I can’t find any real substantial reason why your prints why you output your files to 16 bit versus 8 bit.
They say that it gives way smoother graduations, way smoother gradients, but in all my tests I haven’t seen probably about one and every thousand files I might see some bending in the sky, and if I saw bending in the sky I would go back to my raw image and reprocess it in 16 bit. But on the whole I do everything in a 8 bit workflow and were you change that in Adobe camera raw right here down here at the bottom Adobe RGB 16 bit this is where you actually choose what you want these files open at best, so either 8 bit or a 16 bit.
I’ve also been told that up here in pro-photo RGB to take advantage of the whole cover gamma, you need 16 bit, but I rent has both ways and I still can see a difference, so to compromise of having such a way bigger file compared to a smaller file at the workflow I just can’t see the benefits. The only time it would be a beneficial if you have that one in a million file that gives you problems where you would see bending in the sky, black in a blue sky, or bending where it transitions between white clouds in the sky. If you still have that problem then go back, but I could even find a file that have the problem.
