Samantha Stephens opened OatMeals in New York City in 2012, and since then has been thrilling customers with her unique takes on oatmeals garnished with fruits, meats, nuts, spices and more.
Sam is originally from Fairfax, VA, and made the move to New York City in 2000 to attend Baruch College. It was here that Sam discovered her true love for oatmeal –the ‘freshman 15’ quickly became the ‘freshman 30’ and she needed a smart way to eat right while living on a NYC-sized budget. Sam started experimenting with oatmeal and was eating it for breakfast, lunch, and even dinner. Inspired by many of NYC's single-item specialty restaurants, the idea of an oatmeal toppings bar blossomed.
Post-college Sam started working in the investment banking world, but she never gave up on her dream. She tested the waters by attending Food Writing and Business Management courses at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Sam took that passion a step further when she graduated from The French Culinary Institute’s Pastry Arts Program in 2010.
After over 11 years of research and nearly giving up on her crazy oatmeal idea, Sam finally opened OatMeals at 120 West 3rd St in New York City's Greenwich Village in June 2012. OatMeals is renowned for original and unique recipes and offers signature sweet and savory oatmeal bowls, oat-based pastries and baked goods.
When not working in the store, Sam also participates in speaking engagements at NYU, educating students about oatmeal and tips for avoiding the “freshman 15.” She recently spoke on the NYU panel “The Rise of the Female Entrepreneur.”
Sam’s passion and creativity for oatmeal is exactly why Quaker named her their Creative Oatmeal Officer in 2013. Together, the two will help inspire oat lovers everywhere to try new and delicious oatmeal creations -- the options are endless.
