Located between Mecca and Jerusalem, Jordan is considered by many to be the central of religious faith. Hi, I’m Rebecca Brighton and welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’ll be continuing our travel series with to look out the many biblical sights in Jordon.
Mount Nebo is considered one of the most important Christian sites in Jordon. It is where mosses had said to have gone to get a view of the promise land before he died. Mount Nebo offers a fantastic view west world with the vista that includes the Dead Sea, the West Bank, the Jordan River and on a clear day, Bethlehem and Jerusalem.
According to both Jewish and Christian tradition, Mosses was then buried on this mountain by God himself. In 2000, Pope John Paul II visited the mountain during his pilgrimage to the holly land. This symbolized peace. The Pope planted in all of three beside the Byzantine Chapel. A top one of Nebo’s two pix is to try and showcase in mosaics which decorated the Monastery that ones stood at the location. The largest mosaic that pix the monastic activity of wine making along with hundreds and various animals, just outside the building is the Serpentine cross, a symbol to represent both the bronze self-created by Mosses and the cross on which Jesus was crucified.
The Jordan River is associated with some of the most important events in the Bible. Historically and religiously, it is considered to be one of the world’s most sacred rivers. Many biblical characters most notably John De Baptist and Jesus cross the river during their lifetimes. To most Christians, the most significant invent link to the River Jordan is the Baptism of Christ by John De Baptist. The baptism site is located at the head of the lash valley just east of the Jordan River. The New Testament refers several times that Jesus crossing the Jordan and the believers crossing to hear him speak or be healed of abnormalities. Jesus also sought refuge near the river when his enemies are trying to capture him.
The Jordan was also the site of many biblical miracles such as the Israelites crossing under Joshua and the healing of Edom by Elijah for example. Today, believers flocked to the Jordan to basking its waters and be baptized in the same river as Jesus Christ. Of the mountains, it circle Petra, then it’s more imposing than Aaron’s Mountain. It is believed that Mosses, his brother Aaron died and was buried on the peak although biblical scholars and archeologist debate whether it is in fact the Mount Hor referred into the testament, Aaron’s story fit strongly with this mountain, located roughly 20 miles, southwest of Edom. Madaba is best known for its mosaic, especially a large predestine area mosaic map to pick on Jordan, Palestine, Egypt and other surrounding regions.
The Madaba map can be found in the Greek orthodox church of St. George and it’s the oldest surviving chart of the holly land. In fact, the methods helped verified biblical location. It is estimated that the Madaba map originally consisted of 2.3 million stone tiles and measured a staggering 80 by 15 feet.
