In this video, we learn some basic first aid techniques like what to do if your child drowns or chokes.
Host: How should I respond if my child is drowning or choking?
Robin Vick: If you see a child who is unresponsive in a pool bladder however, slight that amount of water is, it's an emergency situation, call 911. If a child is choking on a foreign substance, it's very, very important that the family know to respond quickly and urgently.
Parents who have taken CPR training are really well equipped to know the kinds of maneuvers to be done on a child to help dislodge that foreign body. If after a matter of seconds, if the dislodgement has not occurred, then you call 911 immediately. It's better to have the emergency team arrive and be unnecessary than to wait any longer than is necessary before calling.
