The precise causes of Tourette syndrome are unknown, but E.R. physician Dr. Travis Stork explains that multiple areas of the brain are involved in causing the tics.
Tourette Syndrome Explained
And the fact is we don’t know precisely why some people get tourettes. But there are certain areas of the brain that are involved. There’s an area inside the brain called the basal ganglia and this area is for movement coordination, voluntary movement. And let’s move on to the frontal part of the brain which is or we typically think of the frontal area is impulse control and then last but not the least there’s an area called the thalamus deep inside the brain. That is the way station every sensory input comes through there before it goes to the higher parts of your brain. And these areas are thought to be someone abnormal in children with tourette.
