Most of us are still not permitted to go to Cuba, but that doesn't mean you can't sample a taste of the Island right here in Miami. Here are Plum's Picks with host Jennifer Santiago for Miami's best Cuban flavors.
Best of Miami's Cuban Flavors
Jennifer Santiago: Most of us are still not permitted to travel to Cuba but that doesn’t mean you can’t sample a taste of the Island right here in Miami.
So, if you want a sample of Cuba’s favorite caffeine, you’d have to get a colada at David’s Café. It’s pretty much like a Turkish coffee only a little sweeter but for those of you who don’t know, you don’t drink this whole thing, okay? Coladas are for sharing.
Our next Plum Pick is Calle Ocho. Stop by Domino Park and watch the old timers compete head to head or smoke in any of the many cigar shops lining 8th Street in Little Havana.
Male 1: I have been coming here since 1981 every single day for 30 years.
Male 2: Don’t believe anything he says. He’s communist.
Jennifer Santiago: Up next, Las Culebrinas has four locations in Miami including this one in the Grove and because the tapas are just $1.00 during happy hour, we could try a little bit of everything.
Male 3: This is my favorite dessert. It is guava and cheese.
Male 4: We enjoy coming here often and they would serve us and they have music and dance and we love it.
Jennifer Santiago: It may not look like much from the outside but Puerto Sagua in Collins Avenue serves great traditional Cuban desserts including this delicious flan de queso. I’m ruining my diet but I don’t care. Sampling the taste, smells and sounds of Cuba are one of the best things about living in Miami and the best things in life are plum.
