Female: Say your locks are straight, curly, blonde, brunette or red, no matter what they are
we all seem to have some issues with our hair. So Better caught up with celebrity
stylist Luke O’Connor in LA and he shared some of his well known client’s
secrets to getting a gorgeous hair.
Luke: I’m Luke O’Connor, celebrity stylist and owner of Lukaro Salon in Beverly Hills.
One of my favorite clients is Debrah Messing and Debrah wanted a new look. so
my wife and I Rhona who owns the Lukaro Salon, celebrity color is, We met with
Debrah one Saturday night and told her, we think she should red and curly and
this wasn’t for Will and Grace, by the way, this was for another show she was
doing. Debrah was I don’t like my curly hair, its frizzy, she always wore straight.
So I said, lick it. let me show you how to make your curly hair likeable, how
you’re going to love it, soft and smooth and shiny and healthy looking. The same
principle as someone would do straight hair. With the straightening hair with the
straightening iron to smooth it out, you use a curling iron to curl it. Debrah was
like, oh my god I love this. And then when we made our red, grace was born.
For women at home with curly hair to get that smooth, healthy, bouncy curl, it’s
the same as girls using that straightening iron to get this smooth straight look.
You do the same thing with curling iron and you can adjust the size of your curl.
Like a larger iron for a looser wave. What I tell my clients what curly hair
because they all complain about it frizzing, it’s mostly frizzy. The hair line Hair is
little more fine and contend to frizz more. so if they just work with framing in
their face. Just take the iron and just bump it around the face, that’s really all they
need to do because that’s where how people see you, that how you see your self.
Know what creates a really nice frame to the face and softens the whole look and
that’s how you get a nice, soft, curly look.
With products in curly hair, less is more, if you’re going for the natural curls at
the back. Say I talked about using the iron for the front that’s framing your face,
wanted just like lightly spray that, but the hair your natural curl that you say might
tend to frizz a little gel mix with one of the shine products and rake it through this
to create separation will always help to.
When I first met Brooke Shields, she came to me as a blonde, believe it or not,
she was just coming off of Grease and they had done this bold streaks like it was
put on with a butter knife but its was funny but believe it or not she actually look
good a little lighter. It was really soft and with some long layers in her hair which
tried to change her look a little bit but little by little Brooke Shields is Brooke
Shields. She is an iconic beauty that we all, we were all grown up with. So we
slowly brought her back to her beautiful long brown, keeping it a little lighter,
lighter brown straight hair.
A great tip when you use a straightening iron to smooth the hair is not to go all the
way to the roots of your hair if you can. You can maintain a little bit of volume,
you don’t want to make it too flat but it is nice to polish the hair up and get that
nice straight look.
My newest client Sarah Chuck, who I just adore, she’s so much fun and I’m doing
a show with her right now. Sarah has this long, beautiful, bitchy blonde hair, she’s
the epitome of the California blonde, and the way we get that is with is use a
larger curling iron. And that and just one and a half inch curling iron, loosely
waving the hair and fingering through this will give you that really soft beachy
wave, which is really very popular right now.
You don’t want to use too much product but because you don’t want weigh it
down, so it’s best to finish of with a flexible hold hair spray. Something that you
can work your hands through after and that will help separate and still keeping it
full because that’s the keys keeping this looks full.
Ladies at home, everybody feels the same about their hair. Everybody has
problems with their hair whether you’re celebrity or a mom, same everybody. So
there are always, there are products, there are appliances and hair tools that you
can use that would help remedy any problem, any hair problem.
