Andrew's Top 5: South Africa
Hey everybody, welcome to the Bizarre World top 5, The South Africa edition. We hit two cities on this trip; Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa. And my number five recommendations are the Game Farms that we went to about two hours outside of Johannesburg and the carnivore restaurant that one of the Game Farms’ operates much closer into the city.
Number four highlight of my trip; you’re going to come to this part of the world, take advantage of all the wild and crazy South Africans that came before you and decided that they were going to offer some hobbies and activities that were outside of the norm. Maybe sand boarding is up to your Alley. Heading out to the beaches and watching the surfers on incredible 20-foot waves, riding the tube in the green room and the walking up over the hill, climbing to the top of a 100-meter tall dune and sailing downed on a retro fitted snowboard with a lot of fun.
As was abseiling on table mountains which is just over there somewhere. Number three, and I got to tell you, even though it's number three here, it’s one of my top 10 experiences anywhere and that’s hanging out with this rascally bunch. Look at how healthy these penguins look and how happy, their coats are all white. They’re oily water, you can see it just run off and when they get out of here. And seeing a happy healthy family of penguins is absolutely an exciting thrill that you’re not going to find in very many places in the world, especially where you can be barefoot.
Number two; the Sangoma experience in Johannesburg. Fans of bizarre foods and bizarre world will know that I’d rather be in market somewhere than in a museum in the same city. I think you learn more strolling to market about the people who live in a certain town or city than you do just about anywhere else. I can tell you right now that Faraday Market, Mai Mai Market and a handful of other places that we stopped and shot, be rolled around Johannesburg absolutely blew my mind.
And the number one highlight, number one without a shadow of a doubt far ahead of all the others combined was the day that we spent in Soweto followed by our evening at Jeppe’s Hostel back in Johannesburg.
