Male: You have decided to adapt a pet. You thought about the time, money and commitment you will need to have and now you are off to your local shelter. But before you go, there are a few things to consider.
Neal Citro: Do you want a puppy that is very energetic, that is going to need some house breaking or do you want an older dog that maybe is not so energetic so they need some training to adjust to a new house. Do a little research on what it is that you are looking for in a pet.
Male: So you have decided on the type of pet you want but do you know what do you need once you get to the shelter?
Neal Citro: You should bring your whole family when you come to adopt. You should bring some current ID, current copy of your lease if you are renting. There is an application process. What we are looking for is head history. How experience the pet owner are you. You do need references.
Male: You have got the proper paper work. Now it is time to find your pet. With so many to choose from, how can you decide?
Neal Citro: We will take out as many animals as you want to see. If you want to take them out, we will take them out one by one and answer any questions that you might have about each one and help you find the right animal for you.
Male: There he is, your new pet. Is not he cute? Oh wait, now what?
Neal Citro: You should have a carrier, if it is a puppy, this size, or if it is a dog you will get a list of the time of the adoption. If you could bring another adult with you that would be wonderful because it is really hard to drive and concentrate on your new pet, especially in your car. When you go home you should be ready with the training crate if it is a puppy, food, toys, bowls, and patience.
Male: Now that you know what to expect when you adopt remember to follow the law and register your pet.
Neal Citro: You should talk to your local town hall or your local animal control if they would be able to help you get a cense application to license your pet.
Male: Have fun with your new edition but remember---
Neal Citro: The people need to have patience and commitment when they take a new pet into their house and that things will be tuff in the beginning because they are just adjusting and you are adjusting but we are here to help you.
