Speaker: Hi! I am Joe Graedon; I am a pharmacologist. I write the syndicated newspaper column called The People’s Pharmacy and co-hosted a radio show. Have you ever burnt yourself in the kitchen? You know, I am not talking about a severe burn; they need to be seen at the Emergency Department of your local hospital, but a minor burn, it can be very painful. The first thing you need to do is get that burn under cold water immediately, seconds count. It can help prevent the burn from getting really bad.

This is kind of cute. You might want to try a little soy sauce. We have been told by a lot of people that soy sauce can also ease the pain of a burn and speed healing. If you have got an aloe vera plant in the house, rake off a leaf and squeeze some of that fresh gel right on the burn; that also seems to work for a lot of folks.

This is kind of unusual, yellow mustard. Go in to the refrigerator, pull out a little yellow mustard, smear on the burn; it can work just like the soy sauce.

This is even a little weirder, Elmer’s Glue, yeah, I know, it doesn’t seem like it could work, but people tell us if they get Elmer’s Glue over the burn, it takes away the pain, almost instantly.

Once you are over the pain, you might want to look for something that’s going to, you know, protect that burn, my favorite, is 2nd Skin Moist Burn Pads. Not only does it work for burn, but it also is great for blisters; it is mostly water. It will protect the burn, keep it from getting infected, and really will keep the pain from coming back.
